WHIN has one of the densest
ag weather networks in the country.
When people have better data they can make better decisions, and some of the most important decision-makers in north-central Indiana are our 4,000 or so farmers. That’s why the Wabash Heartland Innovation Network is deploying hundreds of weather stations like this one across our region and sharing information our farmers can use to become more efficient, save time, and increase yields. We’re on our way to making the densest agricultural weather network in the country.
It’s just a part of what we’re doing to improve lives and make the Wabash Heartland the global epicenter for digital agriculture and next-gen manufacturing. Wabash Heartland Innovation Network, Smart technology. Smart region. Smart future.
Predictive
Using our dense network to predict storm paths and rainfall based on empirical data from our weather stations currently experiencing a storm is just one way the WHIN weather network can work to help people prepare for current conditions. Additionally, our farmers can benefit by coordinating their activities to be most cost efficient.
Hyperlocal
What if you knew that it was going to start pouring rain in the next 10 minutes? Well, that is just one possibility when you have a hyperlocal weather due to a very dense set of weather stations. Wind storm damage can now be quantified at specific locations within our 10 county region.
Structured
Historical data from WHIN's dense weather network provides additional insights into what the conditions were during the entire growing season for our farmers and provide valuable insights into potential disease and ideally present actionable insights. What is the soil moisture at 2"? 5"? 10"? 15"? and how does the current rainfall affect each level both short term and long term.
